Midwives training workshop in Banda Neira
All midwives from the Banda Islands were invited to participate in the second Banda Neira midwife workshop, hosted by the Historic Vessel Vega to provide special training for midwives and equip them with the tools they need to do their job.
The workshop brought together traditional midwives, government nurses and doctors to encourage working together when complications arise.
- Twenty-three midwifes and nurses participated.
- Dr Hendra and Dr Oki delivered the training session.
- Training in how to use the new equipment delivered by the historic vessel Vega was a priority.
- Dr Hendra employed the Mama Natalie birthing simulator to explain problematic scenarios.
- New born resuscitation is a life-saving intervention during cases of birth asphyxia, a leading cause of neonatal mortality.
- Infant resuscitators constituted an important upgrade for our Midwife kits. Together with the training for midwifes we hope to reduce mortality and morbidity among new born in the Banda islands.
- Each participant received an attendance certificate.
- Each Midwife also received a resupply / upgrade to the midwife kit we distributed last year. Those upgrades included additional equipment, nutritional supplements for mothers and babies, pharmaceuticals and expendables.
