School supplies to Sailus Island
Sailus islanders, who number about 2000, are used to the condition of their island which is limited. The majority of the villagers work as fishermen.
On the island, people can only access electricity from 6 pm to 10 pm and the only communication tool owned by the community is one single sideband radio which is available at the village office.
The island is flat with its highest position 22 meters above sea level. There is no plateau or hill on the island of 4.17 km2. Sailus island has the lowest rainfall in January, which is 395 mm, and there is almost no rain throughout the year, so that commodities that can be cultivated are limited, namely coconuts and bananas.

- Each of the four islands in this group received teaching aids and other supplies for their schools
- Pak Omar helped us once again this year with his small boat. Without his assistance getting to the island landing places would have been difficult

- It was fould weather gear and a slog in the rain to reach the school.
- These large wall maps were only a small part of this years supply of teaching aids
- Happy students all dressed up in the best uniforms
- For some reason havig a clock in both classrooms seemed important. I can remember sitting staring at the clock when I was in school.
- Volley balls and footballs were warmly welcomed. The school had one old football that needed pumping every 20 minutes. Now they have several...and two new pumps.
- The only globe on their island
- Music is amazingly important to these small communities. This keyboard will see service at every major island event, wedding, and of course in the school
- Another school is now better equiped to provide these kids with a proper education.
- This foot operated sewing machine was requested last year to teach sewing. Thanks to our friends in Singapore they now have the machine, completely refurbished.
