Wooden Ship Blocks
We make all our own wooden blocks with the help of local machine shops here on Vega. They are robust blocks, made from first-class teak or ironwood as single, double or triple blocks.
These blocks are laminated to be seawater-proof. The housings are glued and joined with dowels, and the fittings are of stainless steel or have a solid and long-lasting galvanization.
The sheaves are made from high-strength nylon with bronze bushings and run on stainless steel axis bolts, that in sizes 4\”-7\” have a save guard against unscrewing. We further secure the axes with brass covering plates.
- e make all our own blocks. Mostly because we get better blocks that way and save a bomb of money.
- We make the shells here on board with the jig saw, grinder and drill. I took this shot a few years ago when we were doing our refit.
