Minister of Trade and Industry for Norway visits Historic Vessel Vega in Jakarta

Trond Giske visits the Historic vessel Vega in Jakarta

The Historic Vessel Vega was honoured today by the visit of Mr Trond Giske who is the Minister of Trade and Industry for Norway. Mr Giske is on a mission to Indonesia and after hearing so much about Vega, the 120-year-old Norwegian built sailing vessel that is dedicated to gathering and delivering educational and medical supplies to some of South East Asia’s poorest and most remote islands, he took time from his busy schedule to visit on board. We were very pleased to welcome him, above all because he is exactly the man who can make it possible for Vega to return to her original flag – that of Norway – remaining as a Historic Vessel. Vega is an important part of Norway’s maritime heritage and it is a shame she must remain registered in a different country. It has long been a dream of ours that when we can no longer give her the care and attention she deserves that she should return to the country of her birth. Now just perhaps there may be a chance for that dream to become a reality.

On the 27th of January, we received this letter from Trond Giske and are doing our best to follow up on it as he has suggested.

Regarding Sail Vega

Encouraging even if he did get the boats name wrong.
